Softball Outscores Maryville 10-6, But The Two Teams Split Tuesday's Doubleheader

The University of Illinois Springfield softball squad recorded a split in its final regular season road trip on Tuesday in St. Louis. The Prairie Stars lost game one to Maryville by a 3-2 score, and then took the second contest by an 8-3 margin.
 
In the opener, UIS and the Saints were tied 2-2 after three innings, but no one else scored again until the seventh. In the bottom of the seventh, Maryville opened the inning with a double. With one out, a single to left center walked off the game for the Saints.
 
Kayana Diederich took a hard luck loss on the mound. She gave up just three runs and seven hit in 6 1/3 innings. She struck out four and walked two. Danielle Dennis had two hits, one run, and one RBI. Carly Chovanec had a RBI triple, and Calla Wickenhauser scored a run.
 
In game two, UIS took a 4-1 lead with three runs in the third, and it then added four more insurance tallies in the seventh.
 
Dennis, Chovanec, and Diederich each had two hits in the game. Dennis had a double, and Carolyn Franke and Diederich had triples. Dennis drove in two and scored twice, and six other players had one run.
 
Addision Bryant pitched five innings and allowed five hits and three runs. Reagan Miles earned the save after getting the final six outs.
 
UIS is now 16-24 on the season, and 11-13 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars remain one game out of eighth in the conference standing. UIS returns home this weekend, starting with two games on Saturday against Drury.
