The University of Illinois Springfield softball program swept Southwest Baptist on Sunday in Bolivar, Mo. The Prairie Stars won by scores of 1-0 and 8-3.
 
Neither team scored in regulation in game one. In the top of the eighth, Calla Wickenhauser led off the inning with a homer, which proved to be the game-winner after the Bearcats failed to score in the bottom half of the frame.
 
Kayana Diederich threw an eight-inning shutout. She allowed just four hits and one walk, and struck out four. She allowed just one runner to reach second, and no runners advanced to third.
 
Wickenhauser finished with two of the team's six hits in the game.
 
In game two, UIS scored at least one run in every inning from the second and sixth innings. Wickenhauser hit another homer, had two hits, one run, and one RBI. Ramsey Armstrong had two hits and drove in three. Danielle Dennis also had two hits and scored twice. Ashley Klinzing and Diederich also had two runs apiece.
 
Reagan Miles earned the win after pitching the final 4 1/3 innings. She allowed just one run and four hits.
 
UIS improves to 15-23 overall, and 10-12 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars have their final road game of the regular season on Tuesday at Maryville.
