Softball's Offense Cooled Down By Rockhurst

The University of Illinois Springfield softball team was cooled down on Saturday in a doubleheader against Rockhurst in Kansas City, Mo. The Hawks won both games by scores of 2-1 and 10-2.

The opening game was a pitching duel, with Kayana Diederich on the mound for the Prairie Stars. Both teams scored one run in the first, and that was the only scoring until Rockhurst had a walk-off hit in the seventh.

Diederich allowed just the two runs in the game, and only allowed four hits until the final inning. The team's lone run came when Natalie Cokel drew a bases loaded walk that scored Calla Wickenhauser. Danielle Dennis had two of the team's three hits.

UIS also scored one run in the first in game two, but Rockhurst scored four times in the second, and never trailed again. Calla Wickenhauser had two hits and one run, and Carly Chovanec had two hits and a RBI. Reagan Miles hit a homer for the team's second run.

UIS falls to 13-23 overall and 8-12 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars will be in action again on Sunday at Southwest Baptist.
