Men's Tennis Looks To Get Back On Track At Home Versus Southern Indiana

The University of Illinois Springfield men's tennis team is home for the final time this season with a Saturday GLVC contest against Southern Indiana. The match will start at 11 a.m. at Glenwood High School.
 
UIS is 7-3 on the season and 1-2 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars are currently fifth in the East Division of the GLVC standings.
 
The Prairie Stars lost a pair of tough road matches last week. UIS fell by a 5-2 score to nationally-ranked Indianapolis, and then lost a 4-3 decision at Lewis.
 
Matthew Lapsley led the Prairie Stars in the two matches last week with two singles victories. He is now 9-0 on the season in singles. The doubles team of Tomas Martinez and Menno Servaes is 8-4 on the season, and has the highest win total of the team. Rafa Rojas and Servaes both have a team-high 10 singles victories.
 
Prior to play last week, UIS was ranked sixth in the region by the ITA rankings. The doubles team of Martinez and Servaes was 16th nationally.

Each individual GLVC school will determine their own attendance policy for tennis. Please check the policies of the home teams if interested in attending a contest. (UIS)

Southern Indiana enters play this week with a 7-3 overall record. It is one of two teams in the East Division without a conference loss as it is 2-0 with wins over Maryville and Lindenwood. The Screaming Eagles were ranked ninth in the latest ITA Regional rankings.
 
Southern Indiana is led by the back of its lineup. In doubles, it has won 80 percent of its dual matches at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. The duos of Spencer Blandford and Lucas Sakamaki, as well as Preston Cameron and Kooper Falkenstein have both won seven matches.
 
In singles, the Screaming Eagles have won 70 percent or better of its matches at the No. 4 through 6 positions. Sakamaki has a team-high 10 singles wins, including a 9-1 dual record.
 
UIS picked up its first GLVC win over Southern Indiana in their most recent matchup in 2019. The Prairie Stars won that match by a 6-1 margin.
