The University of Illinois Springfield women's soccer team fell to Missouri S&T by a final score of 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Sacred Heart-Griffin's Ken Leonard Field in Springfield, Ill.
Â
Sunday was Senior Day for UIS, and three seniors were celebrated before the match in
Amanda Meyer,
Kayla Meyer, and Izabel Pina. All three seniors started the match and contributed great efforts in the tightly contested game between the Prairie Stars and the Miners.
Â
The Prairie Stars were able to double the Miners output of corners by a margin of 14-7. Rylie Billington and
Abby Dellamorte combined to provide the team's main attacking outlet, and recorded the team's three shots on target.
Amanda Finnell collected five saves in goal.
Â
However, it would be the Miners who were able to take the lead early in the second half with a goal in the 54th minute. Although the Prairie Stars pressed forward in search of an equalizer they were unable to find and finish an opportunity to tie the game.
Â
UIS falls to 2-8-1 on the season. The Prairie Stars will be in action again on Friday for their final GLVC contest on the road against Maryville.
