The University of Illinois Springfield women's tennis squad picked up a big regional victory on Saturday. The Prairie Stars squeaked by Lewis by a 4-3 margin.

Lewis came into the match ranked ninth in the region, one spot ahead of UIS, and it jumped out to a 3-1 lead, one away from a victory. UIS rallied though in singles play, starting with
Carol Quevedo earning a 7-5 and 6-4 win at No. 1. At the No. 3 position,
Neha Mokhasi went to a third set before winning the final by a 6-2 margin.

Mokhasi's victory knotted the score at three with
Franca Bucco left at No. 4 singles. Bucco won the first set by a 7-5 margin, and then captured the win for UIS with a 6-3 win in the deciding set.

UIS also got a key point in doubles. Quevedo and Bucco had a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles, and Mokhasi and
Sina Skjelstad had a shutout victory at No. 2.

UIS improves to 8-2 on the season. The Prairie Stars have their final home match of 2020-21 next Saturday versus Southern Indiana.
