The University of Illinois Springfield men's tennis team dropped a close decision on Saturday on the road at Lewis. The Prairie Stars came up one victory short in a 4-3 setback in GLVC action.

The top matchups on the day came at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. At No. 1,
Menno Servaes took on the number 20 singles player in NCAA Division II. He won the first set by a 6-4 score, but fell in three sets after his opponent won the next two sets by 6-2 and 6-4 margins. At No. 2,
Tomas Martinez also went to a third-set before capturing his match by a 6-4 score in the deciding set.

UIS ended up splitting the six singles matches. The Prairie Stars won at No. 5 and No. 6 with victories from
Matthew Lapsley and
Oscar Toro. UIS lost just one game in those four sets.

The split wasn't good enough for UIS to get the team win after Lewis won the doubles point. UIS went up 1-0 when Toro and
Alex Chan won the No. 3 match, but Lewis survived at the top two doubles positions.

UIS falls to 7-3 on the year, and 1-2 in GLVC action. The Prairie Stars have their final home match of the season next Saturday versus Southern Indiana.
