Volleyball Has Final Road Trip At McKendree

The University of Illinois Springfield volleyball team looks for one of the biggest wins in program history on Saturday when it travels to No. 1 Lewis for a 2 p.m. match.
 
The Prairie Stars nearly pulled off an upset over Lewis earlier this season in Springfield, Ill. UIS won the second and fourth sets, but the Flyers held on in the fifth set with a 15-9 victory. UIS held the Flyers to just .208 hitting for the match, nearly 0.030 under their season average.
 
UIS enters play this week with a 3-12 overall record. The Prairie Stars fell twice last weekend at the St. Louis Triangular, losing 3-0 to both No. 10 Missouri-St. Louis and William Jewell.
 
Zanea Spencer moved into the conference rankings for blocks this week. She is eighth with 1.03 blocks a set. Amanda McConnell ranks ninth in the GLVC with 4.12 digs a set. Hannah Nicolaisen is the team's offensive leader with 2.18 kills a set. Regan Trueblood has a team-high 4.80 assists average on the year.

Lewis is the No. 1 team in NCAA Division II, and also sits as the top team in the GLVC this season. The Flyers are 13-0 on the season, including eight victories by a 3-0 sweep.
 
Lewis leads the GLVC and is 13th in NCAA Division II with a .103 opponent hitting percentage. It is second in the conference with a .236 hitting pereentage. The Flyers also lead the league in blocks per set with a 2.50 mark.
 
Caroline Stefanon and Ava Venema are both hitting over .320 for the season, and rank in the top-three in the GLVC in hitting percentage. Venema is the LGVC leader with 1.37 blocks per set.
 
Lewis is 15-0 all-time against the Prairie Stars, including the 3-2 win earlier this season. UIS has won at least one set in four out of the last five matches against the Flyers.
