Men's Tennis Looks For Best Start In Program's NCAA History Versus McKendree

The University of Illinois Springfield men's tennis team starts GLVC play this weekend. The Prairie Stars will take on McKendree on Saturday in Chatham, Ill.
 
With a win on Saturday, UIS will have its best eight-game start in the program's NCAA history. The Prairie Stars are currently 6-1, including back-to-back shutout wins over Olivet Nazarene and Quincy last week.
 
Menno Servaes leads the team from his No. 1 singles and doubles positions, with a 9-2 at each. Rafa Rojas is 7-0 in dual singles matches, and Matthew Lapsley is 6-0 in duals play. In doubles, Alex Chan is 6-0 in dual meets, playing with three different partners in that stretch.

Each individual GLVC school will determine their own attendance policy for tennis. Please check the policies of the home teams if interested in attending a contest. (UIS)

All-Time Series: McKendree leads 8-2
 
McKendree is off to a 4-2 start this season. The Bearcats are coming off a narrow 4-3 victory over Rockhurst last Sunday.
 
Rockhurst won all three doubles matches in that match, but McKendree took the lead with singles wins by Leonardo Frederico (No. 1), Vishnu Prasad (No. 2), and Subash Paramasivan (No. 3). The clinching victory then came at No. 6 with a win by Jaydn Richardson.

The last meeting between UIS and McKendree came in 2019 when the Prairie Stars won 6-1 in Springfield, Ill. McKendree won the doubles point, but UIS swept all six singles matches. Four of those six singles matches were decided in a third set.

UIS will hit the road on April 9-10 with a two-game swing through Indianapolis and Lewis.
