Women's Tennis Sweeps Four Singles Matches For Win Over William Woods

The University of Illinois Springfield women's team won all four singles matches they competed in on Sunday in Fulton, Mo., which led the Prairie Stars to a 4-3 win over William Woods.

UIS lost the doubles point against the Owls, which came into the match ranked No. 6 at the NAIA level. With two defaults in singles play, the Prairie Stars needed to win all four remaining singles to win the match. UIS did just that with straight set victories in each contest.

Carol Quevedo captured the No. 1 singles match by a 6-2 and 6-2 score. At No. 2, Sina Skjelstad had the closest match with set one going to a tiebreaker, which Skjelstad won 7-5. She then won the second set by a 6-1 margin. Neha Mokhasi won both of her No. 3 matches by 6-1 scores, and Franca Bucco won the No. 4 contest by a margin of 6-0 and 6-1.

In doubles play, Bucco and Quevedo won the No. 2 doubles by a 6-0 shutout victory.

UIS improves to 4-1 on the season. The Prairie Stars will be in action again on Friday at Olivet Nazarene.
