The University of Illinois Springfield women's tennis team was very competitive in its matches with Missouri-St. Louis on Friday in Chatham, Ill., but the Prairie Stars came up short on the scoreboard by a 6-1 margin.

UIS and the Tritons split the two doubles matches that were decided on the court, but Missouri-St. Louis earned the team point after collecting a default win at the No. 3 spot. At the No. 2 position, Carol Quevedo and Franca Bucco were tied 6-6 before winning their match by a 10-2 score in the tiebreaker.

Missouri-St. Louis won three of the four singles matches that were contested, but it had to battle for all three of those victories. Both Sina Skjelstad, at No. 2 singles, and Bucco, at No. 3, both went into a tiebreaker in the deciding third set before falling. At No. 1, Carol Quevedo lost a narrow two-set match, including a tiebreaker in the second set.
