The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team fell in its conference opener on Friday afternoon at the UIS Baseball Field in Springfield, Ill. The Prairie Stars dropped a 4-1 decision to Southern Indiana.

UIS could not generate much offense on the day, getting just four hits and stranding nine runners.
Asher Bradd had two hits, including a double, and
Nick Mayerhofer scored the team's run in the ninth inning.

On the mound, UIS allowed nine hits on the day. Three of those were for extra bases, and all three contributed to three of Southern Indiana's runs. Starter
Blake Begner went six innings and struck out eight. The bullpen went the final three innings and gave up just one unearned run.

UIS falls to 4-1 on the season. The Prairie Stars and Screaming Eagles continue their series with a doubleheader on Saturday.
