The University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer team shut out Lindenwood in its season opener on Friday at Kiwanis Stadium. The Prairie Stars earned a 1-0 GLVC victory over the Lions.

Despite the close margin at the end of the game, UIS dominated play for most of the night. The Prairie Stars had a 17-5 lead in shots, including a 9-1 advantage in shots on goal. UIS also had two more corner kicks.

The lone goal came in the 41
st minute when
Brian Riordan received a pass from
Armando Rosiles down the right sideline. He took one dribble and then fired a shot from long distance past the Lindenwood goalie.

Lars Brinkman led the team with four shots and three shots on goal, and
Marvin Zott had four shots, including two on goal.
Pijus Petkevicius earned the shutout in goal, and
Drew Keller and Riordan led the UIS defense by playing all 90 minutes and helping to hold Lindenwood to just one shot on goal.

UIS will head to Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday for its next contest.
