The University of Illinois Springfield softball team went 1-1 on day two of the Dome Invitational in Rosemont, Ill. The Prairie Stars earned their first win of the season over Ferris State, before falling to No. 24 Grand Valley State.

UIS defeated Ferris State by a 6-3 score. The two teams were tied in the bottom of the fifth at three. Calla Wickenauser and
Danielle Dennis opened up the inning with a single, and a double steal put them both in scoring position.
Kayana Diederich hit a sacrifice fly to score the game-winning run, and a two-run single later in the inning by
Carolyn Franke added some insurance.

Diederich earned the win on the mound, going six innings, and
Danielle Dennis pitched the seventh for the save. Those two also led at the plate, with Dennis having two runs, two hits, and a RBI, and Diederich having one hit and two RBI.

Wickenhauser finished with two hits, two runs, and a RBI.
Natalie Cokel and
Ashley Klinzing also scored, and Franke had two RBI.

In the second game, UIS trailed just 4-2 after four innings, before allowing five runs in the final three innings.

Klinzing had two hits and two RBI.
Reagan Miles had two hits and threw five innings for UIS.

UIS is now 1-3 on the season. The Prairie Stars end play at their season-opening tournament on Sunday against Ashland.
