The University of Illinois Springfield men's basketball team put together another good defensive performance on Saturday at TRAC. The Prairie Stars defeated Hannibal-LaGrange in non-conference action by a 64-42 score.

UIS did not allow a point for the first 11 minutes of the game. It forced Hannibal-LaGrange to miss its first 13 shots in that span, and UIS also forced four turnovers. The Prairie Stars opened the game on an 18-0 run, and eventually led the contest by as much as 28 points.

UIS finished the game by holding the Trojans to 33.3 percent shooting from the field. The Prairie Stars committed just six fouls and sent the opponent to the line just four times. Hannibal-LaGrange finished with 16 turnovers. Offensively, the Prairie Stars shot 46.3 percent from the field, including 50 percent in the second half. UIS also had just half as many turnovers.

James Kelley had a team-high 13 points for the Prairie Stars, followed by
Jordan Rice with 12 and
Jack Weber with 11. Seven other Prairie Stars also scored. Weber and
Chase Robinson led the team with six rounds, and Robinson and
Jesus Castillo had three assists apiece. Castillo led the team with a +25 plus/minus.

UIS improves to 3-6 on the season. The Prairie Stars will be off until Sunday, Dec. 19, when they face Purdue Northwest in a 3 p.m. game at TRAC.
