Volleyball Uses Large Runs For 3-0 Sweep Over Truman State

The University of Illinois Springfield used a series of large runs to defeat Truman State on Saturday in Kirksville, Mo. The Prairie Stars defeated the Bulldogs by scores of 25-14, 25-19, and 25-22.
 
UIS set the tone early with an 11-0 run midway through the opening set. The second set saw another large run by the Prairie Stars, this one being a 12-1 spurt. UIS completed the sweep with a series of smaller three and four unanswered points runs.
 
UIS won with a defense that held Truman to a .064 hitting percentage. UIS averaged 25 digs a set and finished with 75, and it only allowed 26 total kills.
 
Emma Konie played a big role in two of the team's biggest runs. She served 21 times in the game, and UIS scored points on 17 of those plays. She had two service aces, and UIS had eight kills while she was serving.
 
UIS had five players with seven or more kills, including nine each from Brianna Bush and Angela Denney. Ryleigh Warfel collected eight, and Hannah Nicolaisen and Megan Krasowski had seven apiece. Becca Blakeley had 33 assists. Krasowski had a team-high 21 digs, followed by Nicolaisen with 17 and Denney with 10. Denney and Nicolaisen joined Konie with team-highs of two service aces.
 
UIS improves to 12-14 overall and 8-7 in conference action. The Prairie Stars are in action again on Tuesday at Southern Indiana.
