Volleyball Starts Five-Match Road Trip To End Regular Season

The University of Illinois Springfield volleyball team ends its regular season with five matches away from Springfield, Ill. That stretch starts this weekend with trips to Lindenwood and Truman State, followed by a Tuesday contest at Southern Indiana.
 
The Prairie Stars are currently 10-14 overall. In conference play, they have a 6-7 overall record and are in tenth place in the overall standings. UIS will need to jump two teams over the last five matches in order to make the GLVC Tournament field.
 
UIS went 2-1 in its final three home matches of the season. The Prairie Stars defeated Drury and Southwest Baptist over the weekend, before falling in four sets on Tuesday night against nationally-ranked Lewis.
 
The Prairie Stars have been playing better offensively in recent games. UIS had a .257 over its last three matches. UIS is 6-1 on the year when hitting .200 or better in a match, with the lone loss being in the Lewis contest on Tuesday.
 
Hannah Nicolaisen was named the GLVC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. She has three straight matches with double-figure kills, and is hitting .422 in that stretch. Megan Krasowski has also been efficient lately, hitting just under .300 for the last three matches, and having 28 kills in that span.

Lindenwood enters play this week with a 14-9 overall record, including a perfect 6-0 mark on its home court. The Lions are 7-5 in GLVC action, and are sixth in the conference's overall standings.
 
Lindenwood has one of the top offenses in the GLVC, including being second with a .231 hitting percentage. Defensively, the Lions are fifth with a .172 opponent hitting percentage.
 
Mackenzi Sifuentes is the conference leader with a .403 hitting percentage, and Rebecca Janke is in the top-five with a .344 mark. Alli Otten is averaging 9.30 assists a game, which is fifth in the league.
 
UIS has won two out of the last three meetings between the two schools. Each of the last five games in the series have been decided by a 3-0 margin.

Like the Prairie Stars, Truman State is under a new head coach this season. The Bulldogs are currently 6-19 for David Gannon, including a 2-11 record in GLVC play.
 
The Bulldogs are coming off a 3-2 victory last Saturday over Lindenwood, and they have won two out of their last three contests.
 
Truman is hitting .165 on the year and averaging 10.4 kills a contest. It is holding opponents to a .214 hitting mark, and have 14.6 digs and 1.8 blocks a set.
 
Ellie Kaat and Morgan Smith have combined for 458 of the team's 932 kills this season. Smith also leads the team in digs, and Allison Beaton is the Bulldogs' blocking leader.
 
Truman State defeated the Prairie Stars twice during last year's spring season by scores of 3-1 and 3-0. The first victory snapped a three-game winning streak for UIS in the series.

Southern Indiana is currently 15-10 overall and 9-5 in GLVC play. The Screaming Eagles are fourth in the conference standings.
 
The Screaming Eagles are fourth in the league in kills with nearly 13 a set. They are also one of the top serving teams in the league with 1.56 service aces a set.
 
Abby Bednar leads the team with just over three kills a set. Leah Anderson is the GLVC leader with 0.58 service aces a set.
 
Southern Indiana has won four straight over the Prairie Stars. Earlier this year, UIS fell by a 3-2 score in Springfield, with the final set being decided by a 15-12 margin. Megan Krasowski led the Prairie Stars with 13 kills, and Ryleigh Warfel had 12.
