Volleyball's Postseason Hopes Remain Alive After 3-0 Win Over Indianapolis

The University of Illinois Springfield volleyball team kept its postseason hopes alive with a 3-0 sweep over Indianapolis on Friday night in Indianapolis, Ind. The Prairie Stars won by scores of 25-22, 25-17, and 25-23.
 
UIS swept the matches thanks to two close set victories in the first and third games. In the opener, UIS was tied with the Greyhounds at 22-22. Emma Konie had a kill to put the Prairie Stars ahead. After an Indianapolis attack error, Angela Denney closed the set with a kill. In set three, the score was tied at 23 late in the game. A block by Brianna Bush and Konie gave UIS match point, and another attack error by Indianapolis ended the match.
 
UIS held Indianapolis to just a .122 hitting percentage, and it hit .236 for the night. The Prairie Stars had six more kills, and committed nine fewer hitting errors.
 
Six players had six or more kills, led by Denney with 10. She had a double-double after also having 14 digs. Bush collected nine kills in 16 swings, and hit .500. Konie had eight kills, Hannah Nicolaisen collected seven, and Megan Krasowsi and Becca Blakeley each had six. Blakeley finished with 34 assists, and had a .750 hitting percentage.
 
Defensively, Amanda McConnell recorded 29 digs. Krasowski was also in double-figures with 12 digs. Bush had four total blocks.
 
UIS improves to 13-15 overall and 9-8 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars end their regular season tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. at McKendree. With a win, UIS moves into a tie for a possible GLVC Tournament bid.
