The University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer team dominated Quincy in every category on Friday night at Kiwanis Stadium, except for the one that matters. The Prairie Stars ended the night with a 1-1 tie over the Hawks.
Â
UIS controlled possession for 60 percent of the game, had a 25-11 edge in shots, a 12-2 lead in shots on goal, and a 10-7 advantage in corner kicks. Quincy's goalie made 11 saves though to get the save.
Â
Quincy got its goal in the 14th minute when it was able to get into the box through the dribble, and then slipped a shot into the goal. The Prairie Stars tied the game in the 73rd minute on a penalty kick goal by
Browel Some.
Â
In the two overtime periods, UIS had the best chance when
Lars Brinkman briefly got behind the Quincy defense, but the Hawks' goalie got enough of the shot to keep it out of the goal.
Â
Conal Gallagher, Some, and
Marvin Zott each had four shots and two shots on goal.
Pijus Petkevicius made one save in goal.
Morgan Ratcliffe and
Marvin Zott both played all 110 minutes in the field.
Â
UIS is now 6-3-1 overall, and 5-1-1 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars are off until next week when they travel to William Jewell.
