Men's Soccer's Championship Run Comes Up Short After Loss To Missouri S&T

The University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer team saw its hopes for a GLVC Regular Season Championship come to an end on Friday night in Rolla, Mo. The Prairie Stars lost just their second conference game with a 2-0 setback against Missouri S&T.

Missouri S&T scored one goal in each half. In the 20th minute, UIS couldn't clear a free kick in the box, and the Miners took advantage with a shot in the left corner of the goal. In the second half, a nice give-and-go for Missouri S&T got the ball into the penalty box. The initial shot was saved, but Missouri S&T was able to corral the rebound and score.

UIS had a 14-10 advantage in shots, but only got four of those attempts on goal. Missouri S&T had five shots on goal for the game.

Lars Brinkman led the offense with two shots and two shots on goal. Pijus Petkevicius made three saves in the loss.

UIS falls to 10-4-1 on the season and 9-2-1 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars remain in second place in the GLVC heading into Sunday's regular season finale at Drury.
