Men's Soccer Remains In GLVC Title Hunt Heading Into Final Home Games

The University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer team has its final home games of the season this weekend at Kiwanis Stadium. The Prairie Stars take on Southwest Baptist on Friday night, followed by a Sunday afternoon game against Rockhurst.
 
UIS, which his 8-3-1 overall and 7-1-1 in GLVC play, enters play this week just three points behind the GLVC standings leader, Indianapolis. The Prairie Stars sit in second place in the league standings according to each team's points per game.
 
The Prairie Stars are also chasing program history this week. With a pair of wins, they will reach double-digit victories for the first time in their NCAA era. UIS is also one win away from tying its program record for most conference wins in a season.
 
UIS ranks in the top-five in the league in both scoring and GAA. The Prairie Stars are collecting 1.75 goals per game, while having a GAA under one.
 
Last week, UIS shutout both William Jewell and Truman State in league play. Marvin Zott was named the GLVC Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Prairie Stars allow just four shots on goal in those two games. After those shutouts, Pijus Petkevicius is now seventh in the GLVC with a 0.97 GAA.

Southwest Baptist is currently 1-11-0 on the season, and 1-9-0 in conference action. Last time out, the Bearcats earned their first win of the year with a 1-0 victory over Southern Indiana.
 
Southwest Baptist has scored six times this season in 12 games, and it has allowed 31 goals.
 
Isaiah Waddy leads the team with one goal, two assists, and four points. Will vanHoornbeek is the primary goalkeeper. He has a 2.85 GAA and a .684 save percentage.
 
UIS and Southwest Baptist have played just once before in 2019. The Prairie Stars won that matchup by a 5-1 score.

Rockhurst enters play this week with a 4-9-1 overall record, and a 3-6-1 GLVC record. The Hawks are winless in their last six games, including five straight losses. In that streak, it has scored two goals, and allowed 13.
 
On the season, Rockhurst is 11th in the league by allowing 1.21 goals a game. It has a 1.83 GAA on the season.
 
Tomasso Tirabassi is fourth in the GLVC with five assists on the season. Chase Klusman and Jacopo Belardo both have team-highs with three goals. Fabio D'Errico has seen the majority of time in goal. He has a 1.51 GAA and a .712 save percentage.
 
UIS defeated Rockhurst by a 2-1 score in their last meeting in 2019. The Hawks last defeated the Prairie Stars in 2017, which was also the last time the two teams played in Springfield.
 
Up Next
UIS ends its regular season on the road on Oct. 29 and Oct. 31. The Prairie Stars will be facing Missouri S&T and Drury that weekend.
