It took nearly the entire game, but the University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer team was able to score late in the contest for a 1-0 victory over Truman State on Sunday in Kirksville, Mo.
Â
UIS controlled the game throughout, having 10 more shots, seven extra corner kicks, and a 7-2 advantage on shots on goal. Despite that, the Bulldogs kept the score tieless until just 2:05 remained in the game.
Â
With under three minutes remaining, goalkeeper
Pijus Petkevicius had a goal kick and sent the ball into Truman territory. Three quick passes and 12 seconds later,
Conal Gallagher had it at the corner of the penalty box, and he buried a perfectly placed shot in the far side of the net.
Â
Petkevicius made two saves as he earned the shutout.
Browel Some had a team-high four shots and two shots on goal.
Marvin Zott played all 90 minutes, helping allow just the two shots on goal.
Â
UIS improves to 8-3-1 overall and 7-1-1 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars return home next Friday for a 7:30 p.m. game against Southwest Baptist.
