Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Conal Gallagher Breaks Scoreless Tie Late Against Truman State

It took nearly the entire game, but the University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer team was able to score late in the contest for a 1-0 victory over Truman State on Sunday in Kirksville, Mo.

UIS controlled the game throughout, having 10 more shots, seven extra corner kicks, and a 7-2 advantage on shots on goal. Despite that, the Bulldogs kept the score tieless until just 2:05 remained in the game.

With under three minutes remaining, goalkeeper Pijus Petkevicius had a goal kick and sent the ball into Truman territory. Three quick passes and 12 seconds later, Conal Gallagher had it at the corner of the penalty box, and he buried a perfectly placed shot in the far side of the net.

Petkevicius made two saves as he earned the shutout. Browel Some had a team-high four shots and two shots on goal. Marvin Zott played all 90 minutes, helping allow just the two shots on goal.

UIS improves to 8-3-1 overall and 7-1-1 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars return home next Friday for a 7:30 p.m. game against Southwest Baptist.
