The University of Illinois Springfield women's soccer team picked up a road point on Friday in Liberty, Mo. The Prairie Stars tied William Jewell by a 2-2 margin.
Â
Both of UIS's goals came within one minute of each other in the 36th minute of the contest, and both were started by free kicks on the William Jewell side of midfield.
Lauren Griffin took both kicks and put the balls into the box. The first one found
Ally Lassetter for a header that went into the net, and the second found
Sierra Cenek who scored to put the Prairie Stars up 2-0.
Â
UIS tried to make those two goals hold up, but was unable to. William Jewell got within one in the 65th minute, and then tied the game in the 83rd. Neither team scored in the two overtime periods, with Prairie Stars goalkeeper
Allison Mirimanian making her only two saves of the game to help preserve the tie.
Â
UIS had a 7-5 shot advantage, and both teams had four shots on goal. UIS took one more corner kick as it led that category by a 4-3 margin.
Â
The Prairie Stars are now 6-3-2 on the season, and 4-3-1 in GLVC play. UIS will stay on the road for a Sunday afternoon contest at Truman State.
