Lauren Ladowski had one of the best all-around games in program history, and the University of Illinois Springfield women's basketball team gave a scare to No. 14 Southern Indiana. The Screaming Eagles prevailed though by a 77-71 margin.
Â
Ladowski finished the game with 30 points, which was the fifth-most in program history. She also had six steals, one shy of the school record, a team-high eight rebounds, three assists, and one block. Ladowski was nine-of-12 from the field, including eight-of-nine inside the arc. She also made 11-of-11 free throw attempts.
Â
Ladowski's play was a big reason why UIS led 33-30 at halftime and trailed by just four 52-48 after three quarters. In the fourth, UIS tied the game with 5:14 remaining on a jumper by
Malea Jackson. Southern Indiana got a three-play play on the other end to take the lead for good. UIS got within two three times in the final minutes, including at 73-71 with 39 seconds left. Southern Indiana drew a foul though with 12 seconds left and made both free throws to make it a two-possession game for the rest of the way.
Â
UIS shot 43.6 percent for the game, compared to 46.3 percent for Southern Indiana. The Screaming Eagles made one more three-pointer in three less attempts, which was the difference in a close game.
Â
Besides Ladowski,
Malea Jackson was also in double-figures with 16 points.
Grace Weber added seven points, and
Liz Uhl,
Olivia Travis, and
Ellie Mitchell each had six. Uhl led the team with a +9 plus/minus in nearly 24 minutes.Â
Makenna Fee was second on the team with five rebounds and had a team-high four assists.
Â
UIS drops to 5-6 on the season. The Prairie Stars are in action again next Thursday at Indianapolis.
