The University of Illinois Springfield women's basketball team shot a season-high from the field on Tuesday night at TRAC, but it wasn't enough as the Prairie Stars fell to Indianapolis by a 71-63 margin.
Â
The game featured runs by both teams throughout, but the biggest came at the start of the fourth quarter. UIS trailed 51-47 after 30 minutes, and Indianapolis extended its lead to 15 with an 11-0 run. The Prairie Stars came back and got within two points twice, including with 45 seconds left. Both times though, the Greyhounds were able to get inside the paint for a basket, and kept UIS from having the ball in a one-possession game.
Â
UIS shot a season-high 46.2 percent from the field, and made 10-of-12 free throws. Indianapolis shot over 50 percent though, won the rebounding battle, and had a 38-30 advantage in points in the paint.
Â
Lauren Ladowski led the Prairie Stars with 18 points, four assists, and four steals. She was a perfect eight-of-eight from the free-throw line.
Olivia Travis had her best scoring night as a Prairie Star. She made seven-of-11 from the field and finished with 15 points.
Malea Jackson was the third player in double-figures with 13, and she led the team with five rebounds.
Â
UIS moves to 4-5 on the season. The Prairie Stars are home again on Thursday night against McKendree.
