Baseball Splits GLVC Doubleheader On Sunday Versus Southern Indiana

The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team split a GLVC doubleheader on Sunday at home against Southern Indiana. The Screaming Eagles took game one by a 10-9 score, and the Prairie Stars were 11-0 victors in the second contest.
 
UIS led 7-4 after three innings, but Southern Indiana tied the game in the seventh. Both teams scored once in the eighth inning. In the ninth, the Prairie Stars loaded the bases with no one out, but couldn't get a walk-off hit.
 
Southern Indiana struck twice in the tenth inning. In the bottom half of the frame, UIS got third and second with one out, but could only get one of those runners in.
 
Zion Pettigrew had four hits, one RBI, and two runs to lead the offense. Austin Alderman had three hits and two RBI, and Chris Monroe had two hits, two runs, and two RBI. Brandon Bannon also scored twice in the game, and Bobby Barnard had two hits.
 
In the second game, UIS got five scoreless innings from starter Nick Alvarado. He allowed just two hits and one walk, and struck out eight in the game. A.J. Golembiewski and Trent Sidwell each pitched one inning to complete the shutout. In all, UIS allowed just four hits and struck out 11.
 
Offensively, UIS had 13 hits and scored in every inning. Chris Mathieu and Nick Wisz both had three-run homers, and Nick Mayerhofer had three BRI. Pettigrew had two more hits, two runs, and a RBI. Mathieu scored three times in the second game.
 
UIS is now 9-4 on the season and 1-2 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars are scheduled to be home on Wednesday for a single game against McKendree.
