Women's Tennis Claims 5-1 Win Over Lake Superior State

The University of Illinois Springfield women's tennis team got back in the win column on Saturday with a 5-1 win over Lake Superior State.
 
UIS captured the doubles point after wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Ashley Long and Ebony Sampson won the top doubles flight in a tiebreaker, while Kaitlyn Thornhill and Hannah Blythe were 6-3 winners at the No. 3 spot.
 
UIS then won four of the five singles matches that were completed. The top two positions were both decided in a third set, with the Prairie Stars getting one team point when Maegan Flight won the No. 1 match by a 6-1 score in the third set.
 
UIS got its third team point from Ashley Long who was a straight-set winner at No. 3. Thornhill then clinch the win at No. 5, dropping just four games in two sets. Jasmine Cortez also won her No. 4 singles match for the final score of 5-1.
 
UIS improves to 3-2 on the year. The Prairie Stars will be in action again next Saturday when they host Missouri Western at 11 a.m.
