The University of Illinois Springfield women's tennis team dropped its first match of the year on Saturday afternoon with a 4-1 setback against Grand Valley State.

Ashley Long had the best day for UIS. At No. 2 singles, she captured a three-set win. After losing the first set, she won set two by a 6-3 score. She then won the deciding set by a 7-6 margin.

Grand Valley State won all three doubles matches, and three of the other singles matches that were completed.

UIS is now 2-1 on the year. The Prairie Stars are scheduled to host Nebraska-Kearney on Feb. 28.
