Women's Tennis Remains Undefeated After Win Over Davenport

The UIS women's tennis team stayed undefeated during the 2019-20 season after opening up its spring season with a 5-1 regional victory over Davenport. UIS captured the doubles point, and then sealed the win with victories in four of the top five singles slots.

In doubles, the Prairie Stars won the No. 1 and No. 3 slots. Ashley Long and Ebony Sampson won No. 1 by a 6-0 score. The doubles point came down to a tiebreaker at No. 3, which Jasmine Cortez and Hannah Blythe won by a 7-1 margin.

UIS swept the top-three singles spots, with Maegan Flight winning No. 1, Long being victorious at No. 2, and Sampson taking the No. 3 match. Flight and Long won in straight sets, and Sampson won her third set by a 7-5 margin.

The Prairie Stars won the No. 5 singles match when Cortez had a straight set win. Blythe was ahead in her No. 6 singles match, but it was not finished.

UIS moves to 2-0 on the year. The Prairie Stars are in action again on Saturday at Grand Valley State.
