The University of Illinois Springfield women's basketball team fell in its first road contest of the 2020-21 season. The Prairie Stars lost to Southern Indiana by a 63-49 score on Thursday night in Evansville, Ind.

Southern Indiana has the top defense in the GLVC so far this season and used that defense to jump out to a 32-13 lead by halftime. UIS did outscore the Screaming Eagles in the second half by a 36-31 margin, but the Prairie Stars could never get within single-digits.

UIS outrebounded Southern Indiana by a 42-33 margin, and it made three more three-pointers. The home team made 13 more free throws though, and shot 42.9 percent from the field, compared to 32.2 percent for the Prairie Stars.

The duo of
Malea Jackson and
Lauren Ladowski combined for 36 points in the game. Jackson had 20 points, including making six-of-11 from three-point range. The six three-pointers tied for the third-most in a game in UIS history. Ladowski made six-of-11 from the field and had 16 total points.

Makenna Fee had a team-high seven rebounds and four blocks, Ladowski led the squad with three assists and three steals.

UIS falls to 1-1 on the season. The Prairie Stars are in action again on Saturday when they host Maryville at 1 p.m.
