The University of Illinois Springfield women's basketball team put a scare into GLVC co-leader Truman State on Thursday night in Kirksville, Mo., but the Bulldogs had a second-half comeback that led to an 81-75 victory over the Prairie Stars.

UIS started strong by building a 15-4 lead six minutes into the game. The Prairie Stars kept that lead until Truman went up 29-28 midway through the second quarter. UIS used a big run though to lead 41-31 at halftime.

UIS scored right out the break for its largest lead of the game at 12 points, but Truman quickly responded with an 11-2 run to get back into the game. The two teams combined for 53 points in the third quarter, and the Prairie Stars led 65-60 at the end of the period.

The offensive outburst for both teams slowed down in the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs found their shooting touch first, and took the lead with 3:41 remaining. UIS tied the game at 69 with 3:22 left. A 6-0 run though by the Bulldogs gave the home team the lead for good.

Both teams made 27 field goals in the game, but Truman had two more three-pointers and eight more made free throws. Truman shot 49.1 percent from the field, compared to 43.5 percent for UIS.

UIS seniors led the way in the near upset.
Jasmine Sangster had a team-high 17 points and three assists,
Tehya Fortune scored 11 points, and
Katelyn Rosner had 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Freshman
Malea Jackson finished with 16 points and three assists, and
Lauren Ladowski just missed double-figures with nine points.

UIS falls to 6-8 overall and 1-5 in league play. The Prairie Stars will stay on the road this Saturday for a 1 p.m. game against Quincy.
