The University of Illinois Springfield women's soccer team fell in its season opener on Friday night by a 2-1 score against Ohio Dominican at Kiwanis Stadium in Springfield, Ill.
Â
UIS scored first in the game in the 29th minute when
Sierra Cenek, playing in her first collegiate game, got a loose ball in the box and put it in an empty goal. The Panthers answered before halftime with a goal in the 35th minute, and then scored the game-winner in the 60th minute.
Â
UIS outshot Ohio Dominican by a 14-12 margin, and had a 9-2 edge in corner kicks. The Prairie Stars had eight chances from the corner in the second half, including several late in the game, but couldn't convert. The best chance for UIS came off the foot of freshman
Meghan Vlcek in the final minute, but the Ohio Dominican goalie was in good position to stop the scoring chance.

UIS will be in action again on Sunday with a 12 p.m. game against Parkside at Kiwanis Stadium.
