Women's Soccer's GLVC Winning Streak Comes To An End

The University of Illinois Springfield women's soccer team saw its program-record four-game conference winning streak snapped on Sunday. The Prairie Stars fell 2-0 at the hands of an unbeaten GLVC squad, Maryville.

UIS outshot the Prairie Stars by an 11-3 margin, and it had a 5-3 advantage on shots on goal. Megan Vlcek led the team with two shots on goal, but no UIS player could get a shot past the Maryville goalie.

Maryville got the game-winning goal in the 13th minute on the game's first shot. The two defenses dominated the first 45 minutes, with both teams having just two total shots.

In the second half, UIS put more pressure on Maryville with nine shots, including five shots on goal. The only goal of the half though came from Maryville who scored in the 85th minute to seal the victory.

UIS falls to 5-3-0 on the year, and 4-1-0 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars return home next Friday to take on Quincy.
