The University of Illinois Springfield women's soccer team is off to its best GLVC start in program history after a 1-0 overtime victory over Lindenwood on Friday night in Kiwanis Stadium.
Â
The contest was closely fought, with Lindenwood having a narrow edge in shots by a 16-12 margin, and UIS having a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal and a 51%-49% lead in possession time. Neither team was able to score a goal in regulation though.
Â
In overtime, UIS scored the game-winner just 160 seconds into the first extra period.
Maggie Juhlin started the sequence with a pass to
Angela Dagnino. Dagnino crossed the ball through the penalty box, and found a waiting
Erin Bolskar, who head the ball into the corner for the winner.
Â
Bailey Cross earned the win in goal, making three saves. She has not allowed a goal in two GLVC games this season. Bolskar finished the game with a team-high three shots, and two shots on goal.
Â
UIS is now 3-1-0 on the year, and off to a 2-0-0 start in conference play. The Prairie Stars will travel to Missouri-St. Louis for a noon game on Sunday.
