The University of Illinois Springfield women's soccer team opened up its GLVC season on Sunday at Lewis, and it scored a 1-0 victory.
 
The game's only goal came in the 29th minute when Maggie Juhlin converted a penalty kick to put UIS by a 1-0 score. The two defenses dominated the rest of the game, with the two teams combined for just five shots on goal and 13 total shots.

Bailey Cross earned the win in goal, making two saves in the shutout victory. Her top save of the day came with 36 seconds left in the game, when a Lewis shot was headed toward the very top of the goal. Lewis got another shot in the final seconds, but the UIS defense blocked it for the win.
 
UIS is now 2-1-0 on the season. The Prairie Stars have their home conference opener next Friday against Lindenwood.
