UIS Volleyball Sweeps Two Opponents On Saturday

The University of Illinois Springfield volleyball team concluded play at the UIndy Invitational on Saturday with a pair of wins. The Prairie Stars did not lose a set on the day with straight-set victories over Davenport and MSU Moorhead.
 
UIS defeated Davenport by scores of 25-22, 25-19, and 25-19. After a late 7-2 run helped the Prairie Stars win the first set, UIS turned up its defense to capture the final two sets. In set two, UIS did not allow a kill until the 24th point of the set, and it held Davenport to a negative hitting percentage. In the final set, Davenport hitting under .100 and had single-digit kill totals for the second straight set.
 
Offensively, UIS hit .245 and had a balanced attack with four players recording six or more kills. Hannah Nicolaisen had a big match with 15 kills and a .538 hitting percentage. Megan Krasowski hit .348 and had 10 kills. Becca Blakeley recorded 34 assists. Defensively, Jenny Rush had a team-high 16 digs, and Jailyn Borum had 11. Brianna Bush and Megan Krasowski had three blocks apiece.
 
UIS closed out the event with a 25-19, 25-21, and 25-14 victory over MSU Moorhead. The Prairie Stars had eight services in the match, and just five service errors. They scored on 56.2 percent of their serves in the match.
 
Rachel Cobert led the serving with five service aces. Jenny Rush had two aces, and served a team-high 17 times in the match. Offensively, Krasowski had 13 kills, and Splitt and Bush each had 10. All three players hit .400 or better, including a .625 mark for Splitt. Blakeley had 36 assists in 78 attempts. Borum led the team with 16 digs, Blakeley had 14, and Rush finished with 12. Bush, Nicolaisen, and Splitt all had three blocks.
 
UIS finished the tournament with a 3-1 record, tying for the best mark among the teams at the event. The Prairie Stars, now 5-3 on the season, will travel to Ohio next week for four regional contests.
