Women's Golfer Jennifer Queller Advances To NCAA Division II National Championships

University of Illinois Springfield women's golfer Jennifer Queller made program history on Wednesday by advancing to the NCAA Division II National Championships as an individual. She is the first women's golfer in program history to advance, and just the second UIS golfer joining former men's golfer Talon Supak.

Queller shot a four-over 76 on her round on Wednesday, and finished the tournament with a 229. She was consistent throughout with rounds of 76, 77, and 76. She tied for the lead during the 54-hole tournament with 38 pars. She finished 13th overall and grabbed the final individual spot that goes to the top-four individuals not on an advancing team.

On the final round, Queller opened up with six straight pars. She had a little trouble around the turn as she went five-over on holes 7-10 with a double bogey and three bogeys. She righted the ship though by going one-under for the final eight holes with seven pars and a birdie on the par-five 14th hole.

As a team, UIS finished in sixth place out of the 12 teams. The Prairie Stars entered the day just four shots behind Missouri-St. Louis for the fourth team spot at nationals, but had their worst day with a 324. The Prairie Stars finished four shots behind Tiffin, and 11 spots behind Missouri-St. Louis.

Ocean Pangan and Maria Espinosa both shot an 82 on Wednesday. Pangan finished the tournament in 19th-place with a three-day total of 324. Espinosa was one shot behind Pangan and tied for 22nd.

Ashley Miller shot an 84 on Wednesday, her best round of the tournament. She had three birdies in a four-hole stretch and shot just two-over for her final nine holes. Paula Valdivia finished her tournament with an 86.

Queller will now compete in the NCAA Division II National Championships on May 14-16 at PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
