The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team got great pitching during its doubleheader on Saturday at home against William Jewell. The Prairie Stars allowed just three runs and nine hits, but they still managed just a split in the two games.

In the opener, UIS lost a pitchers' duel by a 2-0 score. UIS's
Brock Immke pitched 7 1/3 innings and allowed just two hits and two runs. His counterpart pitched eight innings and allowed five hits and no runs. Both bullpens did not allow a run in the game.

Neither team scored until the sixth when William Jewell hit a solo home run. Two innings later, an error helped the Cardinals push across another run, which turned out to be the final tally of the game. UIS was able to get runners on during the game, but couldn't get a key hit, including going 0-for-nine with a runner in scoring position.

The second game was close until the final innings when UIS broke it open and won by a 9-1 score.
Andrew Dean allowed just one run in eight innings as he improved to 6-0 on the season. He gave up just six hits and struck out 10.
Gunnar Kay did not allow a hit as he closed out the final three outs.

Brandon Bannon led the offense with three hits, two runs, and two RBI.
John Sechen and
Ruben Markham both hit homers for UIS. Sechen finished with two hits, two runs, and two RBI.
Ryan Fish also drove in two runners.

UIS moves to 20-10-1 on the season and 11-8 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars and Cardinals will finish their three-game weekend series on Sunday.
