The University of Illinois Springfield softball team split a GLVC doubleheader on Saturday in Kansas City, Mo. The Prairie Stars dropped game one by a 3-2 score, and won the second by a 9-3 margin.

After getting five hits in the first game, the Prairie Stars broke out with 14 hits in game two, and the Prairie Stars scored eight times in the first four innings.
Kendra Peifer had the biggest hit in that span, with a two-out, two-RBI single that made the score 5-1 in the third inning. That hit was part of a big day for Peifer as she had three hits, three RBI, and one run.

Calla Wickenhauser,
Carolyn Franke, and
Bree Derhake all had two hits.
Natalie Cokel and
Grace Harris both scored twice and drove in one, and Wickenhauser, Franke, and Derhake each had one run and one RBI. All nine starters had at least one hit for UIS.

Peyton Long earned the win as she threw a complete game. She allowed two earned run and just three hits. She struck out two batters in the game.

In game one, Rockhurst scored three times on the UIS starter, and was able to hold off the Prairie Stars for the final four innings.

UIS's only runs came on solo homers by Wickenhauser and Franke.
Morgan Edwards had two hits for the Prairie Stars.
Addison Bryant pitched 3 2/3 innings in relief and allowed just one hit and one walk.

With the day's results, the Prairie Stars clinched a spot in next week's GLVC Tournament. UIS goes to 24-22 on the season and 13-11 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars end the regular season tomorrow at William Jewell.
