The University of Illinois Springfield women's tennis squad made program history by advancing to the GLVC Tournament semifinals for the first time. The Prairie Stars defeated Maryville in their first-round match by a 4-3 margin, after
Kena Bere won two tiebreakers to give UIS the win.

At doubles, UIS and Maryville split the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches, with the Prairie Stars winning at No. 1 by
Neha Mokhasi and
Ashley Long. Bere and Thenappan were tied 6-6 at No. 2 doubles before they won the tiebreaker by a 7-3 margin.

The Saints won three of the first five singles matches that finished. The UIS victories in that span were
Ashley Long at No. 2 and
Maegan Flight at No. 4.

With the team score tied at three, the No. 3 singles match with Bere decided the contest. Bere lost the first set 6-3, but bounced back to win the second set, 6-4. In the decided third set, the two players were tied 6-6, leading to a tiebreaker. Bere won her second tiebreaker of the day by another 7-3 margin.

UIS improves to 14-4 on the season. The No. 47 Prairie Stars will face No. 6 Indianapolis in the GLVC Semifinals on Saturday morning.
