UIS Baseball Receives Dominant Pitching In Doubleheader Sweep Over Southern Indiana

The University of Illinois Springfield received dominant pitching on Friday afternoon at the UIS Baseball Field, which led the team to a doubleheader sweep over Southern Indiana. The Prairie Stars won by scores of 3-1 and 6-2.

In the opener, Brock Immke threw a complete game to improve to 6-2 on the year. He allowed just one run, five hits and three walks, and he struck out six batters. He gave up two of those hits and the run in the second inning, and allowed just one hit for the final seven innings.

Offensively, the Prairie Stars got all of the runs they needed in the first. John Sechen and Ben Schanding opened the inning by getting on base, and both scored. Sechen also scored the third run in the seventh inning. Brandon Bannon had two of the team's three hits, and the team's only RBI.

In the second game, Andrew Dean pitched a scoreless six innings. He struck out 11 batters in that time, and gave up just four hits and one walk. Dean improved to 8-0 on the year after getting the win.

UIS led 6-0 when Dean departed, in large part thanks to Nick Mayerhofer. He scored in the fourth inning and had a three-run triple in the fifth.

Brayden Jensen pitched two scoreless innings, before the Screaming Eagles made things interesting in the ninth. Southern Indiana scored twice and had two on, but Ryan Jemar came in and got the tying run out with a strikeout to end the game.

UIS improves to 27-11-1 overall and 17-9 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars and Southern Indiana play one more game tomorrow afternoon at noon. After the contest, the baseball program will host its annual Easter Egg Hunt for kids 10 and under.
