The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team completed a three-game sweep over McKendree on Saturday in Lebanon, Ill. The Prairie Stars won the day's opening game by a 5-3 margin, and took the second game by a 14-4 score.

UIS entered the ninth inning of game one trailing by a 3-0 margin. The top of the lineup for the Prairie Stars quickly loaded the bases. After a run came in by a hit by pitch, McKendree got two outs, including throwing the possible tying run out at the plate on a single. Down to its final out, the tying run did score on a wild pitch.

UIS kept the pressure on, and took the lead when
Ryan Fish walked with the bases loaded. The Prairie Stars added an insurance run before the inning finally ended. In the bottom of the ninth, McKendree had two on with two outs, but
Nick Alvarado picked up a strikeout to earn his second save of the season.

Justin Revels got the win, throwing eight innings and allowing six hits and two earned runs. He struck out eight on the day.
John Sechen led the offense with three hits, one run, and one RBI.
Chris Mathieu also had one run and one RBI.

UIS's offense remained hot in game two, scoring eight times in the first two innings. The Prairie Stars would score in every inning but two of the eight-inning game.

Brandon Bannon led the team with three RBI, and
Ben Schanding,
Chris Monroe, and
Zach Abfall each drove in two. Sechen, Schanding,
Ruben Markham, and
Brennan Brogni all scored twice. Abfall had a double and homer in the game, and Schanding,
Joe LaCivita, and Brogni all had one homer apiece.

UIS improves to 24-11-1 on the year, and it is 15-9 in the GLVC. The Prairie Stars travel to Missouri-St. Louis on Monday for a single non-conference game.
