The University of Illinois Springfield women's tennis team shut out its second straight opponent on Saturday in Springfield, Ill. The Prairie Stars opened their GLVC action with a 7-0 win over Southern Indiana.

Kena Bere was the top performer on the day. She won her No. 4 singles match by scores of 6-0, 6-0, and in doubles, with teammate
Nethra Thenappan, she won by a 6-2 score.

Also in doubles, the team of
Steph Reynolds and
Maegan Flight won by a 6-3 score at No. 2, and
Neha Mokhasi and
Ashley Long won No. 1 by a 7-5 margin.

In singles, Mokhasi won at No. 1, including the closest set of the day when she won her first set by a 7-6 score. Other singles winners were Long at No. 2, Flight at No. 3,
Kaitlyn Thornhill at No. 5, and Thenappan at No. 6. Those four players lost just four games or fewer in their two-set wins.

UIS is now 11-2 on the season. The Prairie Stars will be in action again next Friday at home versus Missouri-St. Louis.
