The University of Illinois Springfield men's tennis team won its conference opener on Saturday in Springfield, Ill. with a 6-1 victory over Southern Indiana.
 
UIS was strong from the start, taking all three doubles matches and losing just seven games in those matches. Alex Chan and Oscar Toro won by a 6-1 score at No. 3 doubles.
 
In singles play, UIS won four matches in straight sets, and split the two sets that went to a third-set tiebreaker. The Prairie Stars were especially tough at the top of their lineup, including Sam Clarke winning No. 1 singles by a 6-1, 6-0 margin. Logan Burgess Hayes won No. 2 singles by a 6-1, 6-1 score, and Menno Servaes won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
 
UIS improves to 11-2 on the season. The Prairie Stars will host Missouri-St. Louis next Friday at Washington Park.
