The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team won game one of its Maryville series with a win on Friday afternoon at the UIS Baseball Field in Springfield, Ill. The Prairie Stars won by a 9-5 margin.

The two teams were tied the fifth inning when
Zach Speaker hit a three-run homer to give UIS a 6-3 lead. The Prairie Stars tacked on three more runs in the seventh and eighth innings to give them some cushion in the eventual four-run victory.

Brock Immke improved to 4-0 on the season after picking up the win. He allowed five hits and three runs in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out six batters and walked three.
Tyler Horvath pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed just one unearned run, and
Trent Sidwell got the final three outs.

Offensively, the top six hitters in the lineup combined to go 14-for-26 in the game with eight RBI and eight runs.
Ben Schanding and
Chris Monroe each had three hits.
John Sechen, Schanding, and Monroe scored two times apiece. Monroe and Ruben Markam had two RBI, and Speaker finished with three off of his homer. Sechen, Speaker,
Austin Alderman, and Markham all had two hits, as did
Nick Mayerhofer in the eighth spot in the batting order.

UIS improves to 14-6-1 on the season and 5-4 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars and Saints will play a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at 11 a.m.
