The University of Illinois Springfield women's tennis team started its Spring Break trip in Hilton Head Island, S.C. with a tight match against Michigan Tech. The Prairie Stars prevailed by a 4-3 score.

UIS started strong with a 3-0 sweep of the doubles match.
Kena Bere and
Nethra Thenappan led the way with a 6-1 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Neha Mokhasi and
Ashley Long won the No. 1 doubles, and
Maegan Flight and
Steph Reynolds won No. 2 doubles in a tiebreaker.

Singles play was a lot more competitive, with four of the six sets going three sets. Michigan Tech won three of those matches for its two points. The fourth tiebreaker was won by UIS's
Kaitlyn Thornhill at No. 5 singles which Thornhill won by a 10-5 margin. Other singles winners were Long at No. 2 singles, and Thenappan at No. 6 singles.

UIS improves to 7-2 on the year. The Prairie Stars will be in action tomorrow morning against Chowan.
