The No. 3 University of Illinois Springfield baseball team clinched a series victory in its first GLVC competition of the season on Monday with a 19-6 win over Truman State.

UIS scored 14 times in the first four innings and were never threatened in the game. The Prairie Stars finished with 22 hits, and also had seven batters reach on walks and one on a hit by pitch.

Chris Monroe led the offensive attack with five hits, four RBI and two runs.
Nick Wisz and
Nick Mayerhofer each had three hits.
John Sechen scored four times, and
Austin Alderman had three runs. Alderman had a home run, Monroe had two doubles, and Mayerhofer had a double.

Gunnar Kay pitched 4 1/3 innings and allowed just two earned runs.
R.D. Lutze picked up his first win of the season after coming in relief in the fifth inning.
Brendan Anderson,
Nick Alvarado, and
Eddie Wilkins each pitched a scoreless inning out of the pen.

UIS improves to 10-1-1 on the season and 2-1 in GLVC action. The Prairie Stars continue their homestand on Tuesday with a 12 p.m. non-conference doubleheader against Parkside.
