The No. 4 University of Illinois Springfield baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader against Parkside on Tuesday. The Rangers won 7-3 in the first game, and the Prairie Stars won the second game by a 14-3 margin.

UIS led the first game by a 3-1 margin before Parkside scored five times in the sixth inning to take the lead. The big blow was a two-out grand slam that proved to be the difference in the game.

UIS had six hits in the game, with one by six different hitters.
John Sechen,
Zach Abfall, and
Nick Mayerhofer each had a run, and
Ben Schanding,
Chris Monroe, and
Zach Speaker each had a RBI.
Ryan Jemar started for the Prairie Stars and went five innings. He allowed three hits and just one earned run.

In the second game, UIS opened up a comfortable 6-1 lead after four innings, and eventually won by the run rule when
Ruben Markham hit an eighth-inning grand slam.

Markham and Schanding both had three hits and four RBI.
Brandon Bannon also had three hits, and Sechen had two hits, four runs, and a RBI. Markham and Bannon each scored twice, and Mayerhofer had two RBI. Alex Altmyer earned the win, going five innings and allowing two hits and one unearned run.

UIS is now 11-1-2 on the year. The Prairie Stars and Ranger end their three-game series tomorrow at the UIS Baseball Field with a 10 a.m. game.
