The University of Illinois Springfield men's tennis team fell in its official spring opener on Saturday night in Plainfield, Ill. The Prairie Stars lost to Northwood by a 4-2 score.
Northwood captured the doubles point by winning two of the three matches.
Sam Clarke and
Tommy Martinez were victories at No. 1 doubles by a 6-3 score.
Clarke and Martinez also won their singles matches. Clarke captured the No. 1 singles by a dominating 6-1, 6-2 score. Martinez won at No. 3 singles by scores of 7-5, 2-6, 6-1.
Northwood won the other three singles matches that were finished, including a three-set match at No. 2 singles, where UIS's
Logan Burgess Hayes fell 7-5 in the third set.
UIS is now 2-1 on the year. It will be in action again on Feb. 15 at Maryville.
