The University of Illinois Springfield used a strong third quarter to pull away from Harris-Stowe on Saturday afternoon in Springfield, Ill. The Prairie Stars defeated the Hornets by a 75-51 score.

UIS came out strong and led 22-7 after one quarter. Harris-Stowe fought back in the second, getting as close as 27-22 in the final minute before the Prairie Stars had one more field goal for a seven-point halftime lead.

In the third quarter, the Prairie Stars opened the period on a 20-2 run, which put the game out of reach. UIS would eventually lead by as many as 28 points in the fourth.

UIS shot 49.1 percent from the field for the game. The Prairie Stars had their best day of the season from three-point range, making 13 of 23 attempts. Harris-Stowe was held to just 30.9 percent shooting from the field. UIS won the rebounding battle 41-28.

Jasmine Sangster led a balanced offensive effort with 12 points, one more than
Katelyn Rosner.
Grace Weber and
Makenna Fee both had nine points, and a total of 11 players made at least one field goal in the game.

Tehya Fortune, Sangster, and Weber all had a team-high five rebounds. Sangster had a team-high four steals, Rosner blocked three shots, and
Malea Jackson had a pair of steals.

UIS improves to 5-3 on the season. The Prairie Stars end their non-conference portion of the schedule on Wednesday at home against Missouri Western.
